Self-Extractor Settings
Use the Advanced button in the Create New Archive
dialog to open the Self-Extractor Settings dialog. In this dialog, you can specify
the parameters of the self-extracting archive.
Dialog Box Layout
The options are arranged in four groups. Each option is described in detail on the
Dialog Box Options page.
- Directory to extract files to
- The Extract to directory (the > button inserts a variable such as $(Temp)
or $(ProgFiles)) and Allow user to change the directory.
- After extraction is finished
- Execute command or open document sets what is run or opened after extraction.
Remove extracted files deletes the extracted files when that program finishes; it is
available only when Extract to is $(Temp). The Wait For button, available only when
Remove extracted files is checked, names a different program the Self-Extractor waits
for before it removes the files, which is useful when the started program launches another one and exits
(see Waiting for Another Application).
- Interface
- Texts opens the Self-Extractor Texts dialog,
Language selects the language of the self-extractor, and Change Icon opens the
Windows icon picker, where you choose the icon of the self-extracting archive from an ICO file or
a Win32 executable or DLL. The current icon is shown next to the button.
- Confirmations and other options
- Start extraction automatically (which also enables Hide main self-extractor's dialog box
and does not let the user change the target directory),
Automatically create target directory, Show operation summary dialog box,
Overwrite files automatically, and Requires administrative privileges.
