Change Attributes
Use this dialog box to change the attributes of selected files and directories.
Dialog Box Options
- Set Attributes
- Each attribute is represented by a check box with the following meaning:
Attribute is set for all selected files and directories.
Attribute is not set for any of the selected files and directories.
Attribute is set for some, but not all, of the selected files and directories.
- To set an attribute, select its check box. To clear an attribute, clear its check box. If you want to
leave an attribute as it is, set its check box to the third state.
- The attributes are:
- Archive: marks files for backup; applications usually set it when a file changes.
- Read-only: applications can read the file but cannot write to it or delete it.
- Hidden: the file or directory is hidden in ordinary directory listings.
- System: the file or directory is used by the operating system.
- Compressed: the file or directory is compressed by the NTFS file system.
- Encrypted: the file or directory is encrypted by the NTFS file system.
Compressed and Encrypted are available only when the file system
supports them, and they exclude each other: checking one clears the other. When
Include subdirectories is checked, check boxes you have not changed yet are
switched to the third state, because the contents of the selected directories are
not known in advance. See File and Directory
Attributes for more details.
- Change Date and Time
- Allows you to specify the last modification, creation, and last access
times and dates of selected files and directories. Use the Set Current button
to set the current time and date in the selected time and date boxes.
- Include subdirectories
- When checked, the operation includes files and directories contained within
selected directories.
